How AI is Transforming Plastic Surgery

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the entire healthcare industry including plastic surgery with the way it helps providers offer better care to their patients, helps with preparations before operations, helps during operations, and helps patients recover after an operation is done. There are three main ways AI helps with the plastic surgery experience including patient care, the actual surgery, and computer diagnostics.

AI helps with patients as soon as they decide they would like to make an appointment for plastic surgery by being available to answer patient inquiries. Before AI, a new patient would have to call a medical practice after searching online; now, a patient can chat with an AI assistant on a medical practitioner’s website as soon as they are ready to learn more because of a computer AI software that has been programmed very carefully.

A plastic surgeon from New York City named Philip Miller M.D. is an expert and was one of the first to integrate AI into plastic surgery practices when he created Aestheti.Bot, an AI Chatbot that can instantly answer any common questions a patient will have. There are also some AI apps in existence right now that help patients recover from other surgeries and these apps can easily be used for plastic surgery recovery as well with after care tips and follow-up appointment reminders.

Though AI robots are not a replacement for actual medical assistants and nurses, they are very able to handle the basic tasks of the operating room such as controlling lighting and machinery through a technology called a smart speaker. Smart speakers are often used by surgeons to keep track of information during operations and they also allow doctors to receive a patient’s medical information without having to stop in the middle of a sterile operation.

One of the most mind-blowing forms of AI is the innovative technology that is being developed to diagnose skin conditions through a deep learning system that is as accurate as a dermatologist. This type of AI technology would use photos, imaging analysis, basic user data, and algorithms to do everything from detecting skin diseases to analyzing possible test results of different conditions. AI technology is slowly changing the doctor’s office to something more convenient for patients and staff of medical practices all around.
